MIKMAR BIT COMPANY
The Mikmar Bit Company was founded in 1953 by Frank Evans, a professional horseman whose family lived in the San Diego area since 1924. Frank operated the Buckeye Ranch in El Cajon (east county of San Diego) for ten years prior to developing the Training Bit. As a horse trainer, Frank wanted a lightweight bit that offered multiple functions and benefits for horse and rider. The Training Bit was useful for trail and arena, helping horses with flexion while maintaining a soft mouth and allowing amateurs to obtain good results.
Frank's unique horse bit with an added soft rope over the nose proved very popular with amateur and professional riders alike. It worked well for riders with uneducated hands as well as experienced trainers who liked it as a training aid. One of the earliest retailers of Mikmar Bits was Mary's Tack & Feed. We have proudly sold the Mikmar Training Bit since 1972! Now the Mikmar line includes a wide variety of western and English bits that employ the smart principles that Frank Evans used with his original bit. Mary's offers a helpful Bit Rental program to help horse owners find just the bit they need for their horse. Shop Mary's for an excellent selection Mikmar Bits and enjoy great service and fast shipping.
