Endurance riding dates all the way back to the early 1900s from military training tests for cavalry horses. Horses would sometimes be required to travel as far as 300 miles over a five-day period, carrying 200 pound packs. Pretty extreme! By the 1950s, endurance riding was a sport. The Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) recognized it in 1978, opening the door for Olympic and world competitions.
