BEVAL SADDLERY
The popular tack brand name Beval is an abbreviation of the name Bev Walter, the founder of Beval Saddlery. Bev Walter started his tack business in 1955 selling products and doing tack repairs at horse shows. He saw a need for better and more specialized strap goods that were beautiful as well as functional, so he went to England and designed his first line of English horse tack goods sized for American show horses.
At the time, American saddles were geared solely toward the rider's comfort. Bev Walter wanted a better fit and comfort for the horse, as well as balance for the rider. He created the Beval Gladstone Saddle, which featured a numbered tree system for a proper fit. After its success, Beval Saddlery created more saddles, including the Devon, Princeton and Stamford. Each saddle design was unique to the riding discipline and purpose, from leadline to Grand Prix jumping. Beval saddles have undergone technological updates over the years, but the overall designs remain. They are rider favorites to this day thanks to their beauty, quality and comfortable performance.
Beval's store in Bernardsville became an East Coast draw for riders who needed fashionable and proper show clothing with the "Beval look" of understated elegance and superior quality. Beval tack is very popular for showing, hunting and hacking, and Mary's is proud to have a wide selection of fine Beval Saddlery products. From a one-car garage in Bernardsville, NJ to England and back, Bev Walter's mission to create innovative yet classic tack has been a lifelong journey that Mary's is pleased to be a part of to this day.
