The Mikmar Short Shank Bit is popular and highly versatile for English, Western and Driving disciplines. One of the two original Mikmar bits, the Mikmar Short Shank is a mild leverage bit that is suitable for all level riders and abilities. It encourages vertical flexion, correct carriage, and balance. It is a nice bit to transition to when you are not getting collection, or control in a snaffle bit.

Mikmar Short-Shank Bit has the Mikmar Low Port Mouthpiece. This is the same design as the standard Mikmar Bit, but with a 3/4" port that produces less palate pressure. The copper roller stimulates saliva, pacifies a nervous horse, and encourages softening in the jaw. The Short Shank is an excellent alternative to a snaffle bit with draw reins, a tie down, or a snaffle with a harsh mouthpiece. The Short Shank is softer than a Pelham, Kimberwick or Combination bit and delivers good results while being gentle to the mouth. Mikmar Short Shank is excellent for events like Barrel Racing, Penning, or Jumping, and is popular for Gaited horses, Trail and Pleasure riding.
