UVEX
The Uvex brand name was created in 1964 but the company roots extend back nearly forty years. Philipp M. Winter opened his German company Optische-Industrie-Anstalt in 1926 to make safety eyewear for workers as well as ski goggles. The Uvex brand name was coined in 1964 by Managing Director Rainer Winter. Uvex abbreviates the term Ultra Violet EXcluded, which was the quality seal for sunglass lenses. All sports and leisure products from the company are now sold with this brand name.
By the 1970s, Uvex expanded to the North American market with a focus on goggles, sunglasses, footwear, and safety gloves. Uvex added ski and cycling helmets with innovative technical materials in 1987/1988, which led to the addition of equestrian sport helmets in 2009. Five years later, Uvex took over Schwenkel gloves, allowing them to add riding gloves to their equestrian offerings.
Today, the family owned company has different divisions to encompass their safety equipment for sports and workplace. Uvex equestrian products continue to embrace innovative technologies. The most recent addition to their riding helmet line is the Uvex Exxential II Helmet with MIPS, the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System that offers superior protection against head injuries. Uvex riding gloves like the Ventraxxion use practical synthetic stretch material that is breathable, flexible, and touchscreen compatible. Mary's Tack is pleased to offer our customers affordable and stylish horse riding helmets and riding gloves from Uvex.
