Don Schutz founded the company in the 1930s and his story is one of passion, discipline, and dedication. At just 14 years of age, he bought a modest 55 acre farm from his dad and began raising horses. He also started crafting leather tack and loved it so much he sold his Arabian stallion for $10,000, a huge sum in 1946, to start his leather tack business. Joined by his brother, Dick, they opened a tack and gun store and also sold their products at fairs and horse shows. They were very successful! Schutz Brothers now has several lines including stylish competition tack for show horses, rugged working tack for professional horsemen, and everyday tack for pleasure riders. Don Schutz founded his tack company as an outlet for his love of leather, horses, and horse tack, and that love and appreciation is his legacy today. Schutz Brothers prides itself on western horse tack that fits correctly and tolerates years of tough use. They partner with leading U.S. leather tanneries and top horse trainers to get the materials and designs just right, and to continually learn what riders need.
