With the wither padding I was hoping to be able to use with without a pad. However, the corners (darts) in the padding created a point that would dig into their back. Also the girth was super thin and looked like it would bunch up. At the price I wasn't expecting anything fancy, but I did not feel comfortable using this. Sadly it went back.
